Belle Vernon has received a $225,000 state grant aimed at revitalizing a deteriorated athletics stadium in the borough. This announcement was made by Rep. Ryan Warner (R-Fayette) and Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32).
"The Brewer Field site has so much potential to provide an array of great recreational opportunities for people of all ages and interests in Belle Vernon and the surrounding areas," stated Warner. He emphasized his support for the grant, highlighting its benefits to community health and quality of life.
Stefano added, "Revitalizing this once-vibrant athletics stadium into a multi-purpose community park is an excellent step forward for Belle Vernon Borough and the surrounding area. The project creates new opportunities for recreation, wellness and community, and will thus enhance the quality of life for Fayette County residents and visitors alike."
The grant will fund the initial phase of the Brewer Field Redevelopment project. This initiative aims to transform the old stadium into a multipurpose park suitable for various activities and events. Currently unused by sports teams, the field has become an open space targeted by vandals. The redevelopment plan includes creating a walking trail, dog park, operational restroom facilities, and a pavilion.
The first phase funded by this grant involves demolition work, securing the site, installing a lighted walking path, and renovating existing restrooms to make them functional.
The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved this grant through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program. This program is financed by impact fees from natural gas drilling within Pennsylvania.
