Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar and Sen. Pat Stefano have announced that the Somerset County Technology Center has been awarded an $85,000 grant by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The grant comes through the Career and Technical Centers Competitive Equipment Grants program.
The funding is intended for updating or acquiring new equipment to train students in skills required by today's workforce.
Metzgar emphasized the importance of preparing young people for success in a growing workforce. "As today’s workforce needs continue to grow, it is imperative to put young people in the best possible position to succeed," he stated. He added that career and technical centers are crucial in developing talent, benefiting businesses long-term. "I am grateful to see this investment made into Somerset County."
Stefano highlighted the broader impact of such investments on community and economic development. "Investing in career and technical education is an investment in the future of our community and economy," he said. He believes this grant will provide Somerset County Technology Center with essential resources to equip students with necessary skills and experience for a changing job market. "Supporting programs like this strengthens the connection between education and the workforce, fostering success for both students and local businesses."
Somerset County Technology Center is among more than 80 Career and Technical Centers across Pennsylvania benefiting from this program. The grants, which can reach up to $85,000, aim to update or purchase equipment for student training aligned with employer needs, ensuring hands-on experience as part of their educational curriculum.
