Rep. Parke Wentling (R-Mercer) announced that three schools in the Sharon City School District will receive over $73,000 in grant funding awarded under the federal Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP).

The funds are allocated as follows: C.M. Musser Elementary will receive $20,394, Case Avenue Elementary will get $32,274, and West Hill Elementary is awarded $17,424.

Under FFVP, selected schools are reimbursed for providing free fresh fruits and vegetables to students during the school day. These items must be offered separately from lunch or breakfast meals.

The program aims to introduce children to a variety of fresh produce and increase their overall consumption of unprocessed fruits and vegetables. To qualify for FFVP, schools must participate in the National School Lunch Program and prioritize those with a high percentage of children eligible for free or reduced-price meals.
