Rep. Ryan Warner and Sen. Pat Stefano have announced the allocation of $650,000 in state funding for the Brownsville Water Street Redevelopment Project. This initiative aims to transform a historic building into a hub for industry, recreation, and creativity.
Warner expressed enthusiasm about the development, stating, “It is always encouraging to see new and innovative spaces being developed in our communities, and this project certainly fits the bill.” He emphasized his support alongside Sen. Stefano for the project's advancement.
Stefano shared his excitement as well: “I’m thrilled to see this funding go to a project that will transform a historic building and revitalize commerce in Brownsville." He highlighted the potential benefits for local entrepreneurs and community growth.
The redevelopment involves renovating the former Brownsville Telegraph building into a training facility, microbusiness incubator, and storefront venues. The construction plan includes a three-story structure with maker space, retail areas, and a greenhouse. The first floor will feature an open-air space with seating and café facilities housed in shipping containers. The second floor will offer open office space with additional containerized restrooms and storage. An open roof deck and greenhouse will occupy the third floor.
Funding was secured through legislative authorization under the Capital Budget Project Itemization Act via the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP). Administered by Pennsylvania's Office of the Budget, RACP supports projects that have regional or multi-jurisdictional impacts on economic activity such as employment or tax revenue increases.
