State grants have been allocated to Somerset County, amounting to $265,000, as announced by Sen. Pat Stefano (R-32) and Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar (R-69). These funds have been awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) to support local community projects.

The bulk of the funds, totaling $225,000, has been directed to Meyersdale Borough. This grant aims to address an eroded levee embankment, which leaves a significant segment of the borough's flood control system vulnerable to scour from the Casselman River during high-water events. "Safety is paramount, and this funding allows Meyersdale Borough to restore the flood control system and safeguard the homes, businesses, and families who depend on it," Stefano affirmed.

This particular grant falls under the CFA's Flood Mitigation Program. This program supports initiatives authorized by various authorities including a flood protection authority and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It also considers projects identified by local governments for flood mitigation.

Metzgar emphasized the broader impact of the grants, saying, "These grants will play a significant role in Somerset County’s future by preserving our safety and way of life. I am pleased to see the importance of these projects recognized and subsequently funded."

An additional $40,000 has been allocated for the Remember Me Rose Garden. The funds will construct an amphitheater and stage intended as a tribute to those who perished in the September 11, 2001, attacks, especially those on United Airlines Flight 93. This venue will also assist the Flight 93 National Memorial in carrying out its mission. Stefano remarked, "This project further advances Flight 93 National Memorial’s mission to preserve the memory of the brave individuals who tragically lost their lives while also creating a meaningful space for community events."

Financing for the amphitheater has been sourced from the CFA’s Greenways, Trails, and Recreation Program. This program supports development, rehabilitation, and improvements to public spaces such as parks and recreational areas.

All the projects received funding through the CFA, a standalone entity under the Department of Community and Economic Development managing numerous economic and community enhancement programs across Pennsylvania.
