Belle Vernon is set to receive a significant boost with a $225,000 state grant aimed at revitalizing a dilapidated athletics stadium. The grant was announced by Rep. Ryan Warner and Sen. Pat Stefano, both of whom see the potential for the site to greatly benefit the local community.

“The Brewer Field site has so much potential to provide an array of great recreational opportunities for people of all ages and interests in Belle Vernon and the surrounding areas,” said Warner. He emphasized his advocacy for the grant, pointing out its potential to improve community health and quality of life.

Stefano echoed these sentiments, noting the project’s value to the region. “Revitalizing this once-vibrant athletics stadium into a multi-purpose community park is an excellent step forward for Belle Vernon Borough and the surrounding area. The project creates new opportunities for recreation, wellness and community, and will thus enhance the quality of life for Fayette County residents and visitors alike,” he stated.

The funding will support the first phase of the Brewer Field Redevelopment project. This initiative seeks to transform the unused stadium into a multifaceted park for various activities. Currently, Brewer Field is an open area prone to vandalism. The borough plans to develop a walking trail, dog park, restroom facilities, and a pavilion.

The grant will cover initial demolition and site preparation, securing the premises, installing a lighted walking path, and renovating restrooms to make them operational. The funding was granted by the Commonwealth Financing Authority through the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program. This program receives funding from impact fees on natural gas drilling within the state.
