Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar and Sen. Pat Stefano have announced that Somerset County Technology Center has received an $85,000 grant. This funding comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Education through the Career and Technical Centers (CTCs) Competitive Equipment Grants program.

The grant aims to enhance training by updating or acquiring new equipment, which will help in equipping students with skills pertinent to current workforce demands. Metzgar emphasized the importance of such investments, remarking, “As today’s workforce needs continue to grow, it is imperative to put young people in the best possible position to succeed.” He noted the crucial role of career and technical centers in cultivating talent for businesses.

Stefano echoed these sentiments, stating, “Investing in career and technical education is an investment in the future of our community and economy.” He added that the grant will ensure the center has the necessary resources to prepare students to thrive in an evolving job market.

Somerset County Technology Center is among more than 80 such centers in Pennsylvania. The grant program allows for awards up to $85,000 to school entities for updating or purchasing equipment for student training in approved programs. The equipment must align with employer needs and provide students with practical experience within the curriculum.
