Several community-improvement projects in Bedford County have been awarded nearly $3 million in funding, as announced by Representative Jesse Topper and Senator Pat Stefano. The funds are allocated to enhance public safety and infrastructure.

Senator Stefano emphasized the importance of these improvements, stating, “I’m grateful to see this funding go toward essential equipment and infrastructure improvements that will expand our municipalities’ ability to operate more effectively and efficiently. Public safety is paramount – so whether it’s roadway maintenance or a necessary school roof replacement, we must remain dedicated to keeping residents safe and constantly look for ways to best enhance the quality of life throughout Bedford County.”

The Local Shares Account through the Commonwealth Financing Authority is responsible for funding several projects. Additionally, two school districts received grants from the Public School Facility Improvement Grant Program.

Representative Topper highlighted the significance of providing safe learning environments for students: “Ensuring our students have a safe place in which to learn is essential. These grants address building issues, creating the learning environment students deserve,” he said. “Combined with the grants for our municipalities, this helps build a better Bedford County that will continue to thrive.”

Bedford Area School District has been granted $1.2 million for a roof replacement project at Bedford High School. This project aims to repair or replace 17 sections of the roof, addressing current issues such as leaking water and humidity control. The funds will cover construction costs while improving air quality and reducing maintenance expenses.

Northern Bedford County School District received $500,000 for window replacement and plumbing improvements at Northern Bedford County Elementary School. The project includes replacing all windows and installing new PVC pipes to replace deteriorating terra cotta lines.
