Senator Pat Stefano and Representative Charity Grimm Krupa have announced that state grants totaling nearly $2.9 million have been awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA). The funding is intended for essential equipment and infrastructure improvements to enhance public safety, environmental protection, and the quality of life in Fayette County.

Stefano expressed gratitude for the funding, emphasizing its role in improving municipal operations. "I’m grateful to see this funding go toward essential equipment and infrastructure improvements that will expand our municipalities’ ability to operate more effectively and efficiently," he said. He also praised local leaders for their proactive approach in applying for these grants.

The initial set of grants was provided through the CFA’s Local Share Account (LSA) Program, which supports projects related to public interest, community improvement, and economic development using funds generated by casinos. "Whether it’s a new roof for an elementary school or a new municipal street sweeper, each of these projects will help make life a little better for the residents of southwestern Pennsylvania," stated Grimm Krupa.

Additionally, a grant was awarded through the CFA’s Public School Facilities Improvement Grant (PSFIG) Program. This program assists public school districts and area career and technical schools with facility improvement projects. Laurel Highlands School District received $897,500 for replacing the roof at Marshall Elementary School due to its exceeded life expectancy and active leaks.

The CFA is an independent agency within Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development that manages various economic development and community improvement programs across the state.
