Borough of South Connellsville issued the following announcement on Nov. 19.
As part of the Pennsylvania DEP’s MS4 Program (Small Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems), the Borough of South Connellsville would like to remind everyone that our storm sewer inlets and drainage swales discharge directly into the Youghiogheny River. We are striving to educate the public about the storm sewer system and the problems with allowing various items to enter our streams and waterways. The Youghiogheny River brings many benefits to our community, especially recreational activities. We ask that your assistance in educating our community about inappropriate practices that will damage one of our most precious resources.
Items that are not permitted in the storm water system are items such as oils, paints, chemicals, pet wastes, construction debris, lawn clippings, trash, sewage, and sediments from erosion.
Again, we want to make sure that everyone realizes that whatever enters the storm sewer system goes directly into the Youghiogheny River. Only storm water should be in the storm water system.
