Borough of South Connellsville issued the following announcement on Aug. 26
The following notice may be picked up at the borough office Mon-Thurs, 8am - 3:30pm.
SOUTH CONNELLSVILLE BOROUGH CUSTOMERS:
Unfortunately, as a result of an increase in rates from the Connellsville Municipal Authority, the South Connellsville Borough Municipal Authority must also increase rates. The Borough is billed by the Connellsville Municipal Authority, and it must pass on those costs to its customers. Effective on September 1, 2020, the base rate for each equivalent dwelling unit (EDU) will be $40.00. The base rate for each EDU covers 3,500 gallons of water consumption. The rate for consumption per each 1,000 gallons over each EDU will be $5.50. The Connellsville Municipal Authority has indicated that this increase is necessary to cover the cost of plant improvements mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Please know that the South Connellsville Borough Municipal Authority has made every effort to minimize these rates and any increase. We thank you for your understanding at this time.
SOUTH CONNELLSVILLE BOROUGH CUSTOMERS:
Even though the Authority was not subject to the Governor’s order regarding the suspension of service and abatement of late fees and interest, the Authority approved the suspension of late fees and interest for delinquent balances shortly following the announcement of the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year. The Authority took this step in order to provide relief to struggling households and residents during that difficult and uncertain time. Now that the economy has reopened, the Authority will return to its standard billing delinquency and collection policies effective September 1, 2020. The Authority will, once again, begin assessing late fees and interest on past due balances. Additionally, once water utilities are again permitted to terminate water service for nonpayment of sewage bills, the Authority will begin requesting water service shut-offs on delinquent accounts.
Please note that installment payment agreements for delinquent balances are available for those who qualify. Most importantly, however, please note that account holders who have not entered into an installment payment agreement with the Authority (or have not continued to remain current with their installment payment agreement) will not be eligible for an installment payment agreement once water service shut-offs are again permitted by the Public Utilities Commission (PUC). At that time, account holders with past due balances will be immediately subject to water service shut-offs and will not have the option of entering into an installment payment agreement for their past due balance. In order to avoid water service shut-off, delinquent account holders will then need to pay the full past due balance on their account.
Please note that the prompt payment of your sewage is necessary for the continued effective operation of sewage service within the Borough. Individuals who do not pay their sewage bills pass those costs onto their neighbors and other residents within our community who pay their sewage bills. It is crucial that we all cooperate and work together to ensure the continued operation of our vital sewage system during this time.
