The Municipal Authority of Washington Township has received a $5.1 million grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST), as announced by Rep. Ryan Warner and Sen. Pat Stefano.
This funding will be used for several upgrades, including replacing the motor control center and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, as well as rehabilitating water filters at the treatment plant. The project includes installing new media, underdrains, and an air scour system in four dual-media filters to enhance filter quality and washes. Additionally, approximately 15,000 feet of undersized waterlines in the distribution system will be replaced to improve service and support fire protection.
“Ensuring the quality and reliability of our drinking water system is a vital public health issue,” Warner stated. “I was pleased to work with Sen. Stefano in support of this project that will benefit more than 3,000 customers in communities in both Fayette and Washington counties.”
“This investment will help alleviate the cost barriers that come with a project of this magnitude,” Stefano remarked. “I am pleased to see Washington Township will benefit from this state grant which will help bring better water quality to its residents and bolster the efficiency of its water treatment plant.”
PENNVEST provides funding for projects related to drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, non-point source pollution prevention, among others, aiming to improve health and safety for Commonwealth citizens while protecting the environment.
