Somerset County Tech Center receives $85k grant from state education department

Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar and Sen. Pat Stefano have announced that the Somerset County Technology Center has been awarded an $85,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education. The funding is part of the Career and Technical Centers Competitive Equipment Grants program.

The grant will be used to update or purchase new equipment aimed at training students with skills needed in today's workforce. Metzgar emphasized the importance of equipping young people for success, stating, “As today’s workforce needs continue to grow, it is imperative to put young people in the best possible position to succeed.”

Stefano highlighted the broader impact of such investments, noting that "Investing in career and technical education is an investment in the future of our community and economy." He added that this grant would provide necessary resources for students to thrive in a changing job market.

Somerset County Technology Center is one of more than 80 career and technical centers across Pennsylvania eligible for these grants. These grants can be as much as $85,000 per school entity for updating or purchasing equipment aligned with employer needs, offering hands-on experience as part of student training programs.
