Rep. Charity Grimm Krupa announced that the East End United Community Center has been awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant amounting to nearly $500,000 by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE). The grant is designed to establish community learning centers offering academic, artistic, and cultural enrichment opportunities for students and their families.

The program mandates that centers provide a variety of activities complementing regular academic programs, including literacy and educational services for families. "PDE received a record number of applicants for this grant," said Grimm Krupa. "The fact that East End United Community Center has been selected goes to show how important it is to our community. Between the day care, educational programs, food assistance, and outreach efforts, East End is already doing great work. This funding will ensure they can help even more students and their families."

The PDE administers these grants in three cohorts over five consecutive years. Funding relies on federal government availability and satisfactory performance.

For further information or inquiries, Representative Charity Grimm Krupa from the 51st District of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives can be contacted at 724-438-6100.
