HARRISBURG – Rep. Charity Grimm Krupa (R-Fayette) issued a statement following her “no” vote on House Bill 2370, which proposes increased education funding.
“I want the entire 51st Legislative District to know that my vote against House Bill 2370 was not a vote against education. It was a vote to protect our taxpayers from throwing more of their hard-earned money at a problem that has had money thrown at it for years without any positive change," said Krupa.
Krupa highlighted a ruling by Commonwealth Court declaring Pennsylvania’s school funding system unconstitutional, stating that the bill fails to address this issue. "In fact, it doubles down on that failed system by doing more of the same with even more money," she added.
The proposed bill includes funding for an adequacy gap, amounting to over $5.1 billion statewide. Krupa pointed out that more than a quarter of this funding is allocated to one school district in Philadelphia.
“Instead of wasting more money by spending it on a failed system, we should be expanding education choices for our children. This bill does the opposite by attacking cyber charter schools and refusing to recognize them as viable and valuable public schools,” Krupa stated.
She expressed support for increased public school funding but emphasized the need for prudent spending. “Our tax dollars should be used to fund students and opportunities across the state, not wasted on one school district in the corner of our Commonwealth.”
