Senator Pat Stefano and House Minority Leader Jesse Topper announced that Bedford County will receive over $4.6 million in state grant funding for 17 local projects. The grants, provided through the Statewide Local Share Account (LSA) and Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP), are administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
Stefano stated, “I’m proud to see these state investments directed to projects that will make a real difference for Bedford County communities. By investing in infrastructure and emergency services, these projects will ultimately support long-term economic growth and improve the overall quality of life for residents across the county. I’m thankful to work alongside Rep. Topper to secure this funding.”
The funds will be used for water and sewer upgrades, emergency services equipment, road maintenance vehicles, and recreational initiatives throughout several municipalities in Bedford County.
“These investments to a wide range of projects, from strengthening infrastructure and enhancing public safety to expanding recreational opportunities, will make a real difference to residents of Bedford County,” said Topper. “I’m grateful to have played a role in delivering these funds to our communities.”
Projects receiving LSA funding include waterline replacements in Bedford Borough Municipal Authority; new equipment purchases such as tractors for trail maintenance by the Bedford Fulton Joint Recreation Authority; sewer cameras for investigative work in Bedford Township Municipal Authority; trucks for Cumberland Valley Township and Londonderry Township; breathing apparatuses for Breezewood Volunteer Fire Company; an emergency generator replacement in East Providence Township Municipal Authority; waterline upgrades in Everett Borough Area Municipal Authority; fire access boat ramp construction and utility truck purchases in Hopewell Borough; sewage treatment plant improvements in Hopewell Township; demolition of Stonerstown school building with parking area creation in Liberty Township; vehicle purchases in Napier Township; facility upgrades at Saxton Borough Municipal Authority; cargo van purchase by Snake Spring Township Municipal Authority; pole building construction in Southampton Township; Scalia sewer trunk link realignment by West Providence Township Municipal Authority; and utility truck purchase by Woodbury Borough.
Additionally, $250,000 from GTRP has been allocated to Phase I of the Green Project—a walking trail development initiative—in Bedford Borough.
The LSA program distributes gaming revenue toward economic development efforts while GTRP is funded through Marcellus Shale impact fees established under Act 13 of 2012. Both programs are managed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which operates as an independent agency within Pennsylvania’s Department of Community and Economic Development responsible for administering economic stimulus packages.
