Rep. Ryan Warner of Fayette County has issued a statement explaining his opposition to House Bill 1957, which proposes a constitutional amendment to guarantee the right to abortion in Pennsylvania. The bill was approved by the state House with a narrow margin of 102-101.
Warner described his position, stating, “It is unbelievable – and unconscionable – to me that even one member, let alone 102 of them, would vote for this travesty of a bill that shows such blatant disregard for human life. Pennsylvania already allows abortion up to 24 weeks of gestation. It is abhorrent to even consider amending our state Constitution – our foundational, guiding document – to say innocent children can be aborted even up until birth.”
He further commented on the intent behind the legislation: “This bill does not protect women. It protects an extreme ideology that devalues life and ignores our founding principle that guarantees life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Warner also referenced former President Ronald Reagan in his remarks: “President Ronald Reagan once said, ‘I’ve noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.’ That truth still stands. Every member who cast a vote for this bill was able to do so because their mother chose life. They should let that sink in and finally stop pursuing this radical agenda.”
The measure now moves forward following its passage in the House.
