State Rep. Carl Walker Metzgar and Sen. Pat Stefano have secured more than $12.58 million in funding from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) for a water quality project in Conemaugh Township, Somerset County. Of this total, $8.8 million will be provided as a grant.

The funding will support the installation of approximately 2,200 new meter pits and meters within the Conemaugh Township Municipal Authority’s distribution system. The new meter pits are planned to be installed at each customer’s property line and connected to existing service lines.

“Obtaining these dollars for Somerset County reflects the clear vision of putting residents first and ensuring communities have the resources they need to thrive,” said Metzgar. “This is a significant step forward that will benefit families and generations in the present and future.”

Senator Stefano added, “Reliable access to safe, clean water is paramount. I’m proud to see this funding go towards an infrastructure project that will modernize the system and better serve families throughout Conemaugh Township.”

PENNVEST was established in 1988 to provide grants and low-interest loans for projects involving drinking water distribution, treatment facilities, storm water management, and wastewater systems across Pennsylvania.
