Rep. Charity Grimm Krupa (R-Fayette) has introduced legislation aimed at ensuring accountability for sexual assault settlements involving public officials in Pennsylvania. House Bill 1948, if passed, would allow the Commonwealth to seek reimbursement from individuals responsible for improper and unlawful actions that result in settlements or judgments paid by the Commonwealth.

In a statement following the bill's introduction, Grimm Krupa emphasized the need to prevent taxpayer money from being used to settle allegations of sexual assault by public officials. She stated, "My bill would send a clear message to all public servants that sexual harassment will not be tolerated, and those responsible will be required to take personal responsibility for the financial consequences of their actions."

Grimm Krupa further highlighted the current lack of consequences for public officials involved in such misconduct, stating, "As of now, the worst of our public officials feel like they can get away with these disgusting acts because they aren't footing the bill - the taxpayers are." She stressed that the cost of their inappropriate behavior should not be borne by innocent taxpayers while officials enjoy tax-funded pensions and salaries.

The proposed legislation aims to ensure that perpetrators of sexual assault do not evade accountability. Grimm Krupa stated, "This bill would ensure the perpetrators of these horrific acts don't get off scot-free." If passed, the bill would alleviate the burden on taxpayers who have been losing their hard-earned money due to the actions of corrupt officials and staffers. The representative emphasized the importance of bringing transparency and accountability back into public office.
